Barkot: - This place is located just 49 km from the Yamunotri and equipped with all kinds of modern facilities. This small sleepy hamlet has a well fledged market which consists of a large number of shops, restaurants and hotels. This is the reason why a large number of travelers, tourists and pilgrims on their way to, Yamuna, the seat of the famous river, take a break at Barkot for few days. But it is not just only a stopover there are many things in this place that makes it worth visiting. The most prominent of them is the view of the surrounding area. As this place is located at an altitude of just 1220 meters, it offers a breathtaking and wonderful sight of some of the most massive Himalayan peaks. Apart from that, this place is easily accessible all through the year. During the winter months the regular snowfall greatly enhances the beauty of this picturesque hamlet.

 

Jaunsar-Bawar region: - This is a tribal valley which is spread over 1002 square km and consists of more than 400 villages. This valley is famous for its history and culture which is what attracts tourists to this region. Jaunsari is the most prominent tribe of this place, but their culture is far different from their contemporaries who are present in other parts of this Himalayan state. One very interesting aspect of the culture of this place is the polyandry marriage system. Apart from the beautiful view available at this place, this region is also well known for its festive sports and local dance form such as "Barada Nati/Harul/Raso. Being a very vibrant place, this is a must visit for those who want to experience the life and energy of the people living in the Himalayan region.
