Patio Umbrella Crank Lock Not Releasing? How to Fix It

The crank handle should pull out about an 3" inch in order for the crank locking pawl to release. When the crank is not pulled out sufficiently the pawl still engages the gear mechanism and does not allow it to turn. Simply pull out the crank fully and turn CCW to close your umbrella.
