Mount Everest Camps: A Guide to the Key Stations

There are four main camps on Mount Everest:

Base Camp (17,600 feet)

Base camp is located at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall and is the starting point for all expeditions. It is a bustling community with hundreds of tents, dining tents, and medical facilities.

Camp 1 (19,500 feet)

Camp 1 is located at the top of the Khumbu Icefall and is the first major stopping point on the way to the summit. It is a relatively small camp with only a few tents.

Camp 2 (21,000 feet)

Camp 2 is located at the base of the Lhotse Face and is the highest camp on the south side of Everest. It is a larger camp than Camp 1 and has more amenities, including a dining tent and a kitchen.

Camp 3 (23,000 feet)

Camp 3 is located on the South Col, a high plateau between Everest and Lhotse. It is the last major stopping point before the summit and is a very dangerous place to be due to the high winds and cold temperatures.
