It seems to be the hot button topic for this generation, and why not? Gas prices have scaled to all time highs all over the world. While recent months have seen a considerable reduction from the record highs, the cost of fuel is still sitting at a considerable level and makes a tremendous difference in a person's monthly budget. For this reason, it is essential that alternative sources of energy be explored. And people should also not forget one of the oldest and best forms of transportation for daily travel: the bicycle.

Autos pollute the air, bicycles do not. Automobiles give off pollution. There is no getting around it. Even the cleanest auto technologies emit something. Bikes present only the simple physics of a rider and two wheels. When you choose to make a lot of your routine travels with a bicycle, you give the environment a chance to rest and restore from the damage that freeway traffic does to it. The more people on two wheels, the better!

Cars create traffic congestion, bikes stay mobile in hard to move locations. Who hasn't gotten angry at a traffic jam in their lifetime? Nothing is more monotonous than sitting at a light for five to ten minutes. With bicycles, you may not be able to reach the higher speeds of an auto, but the fact that you have to stop far less frequently gives you an advantage that is not to be dismissed.

Parking is always a breeze with a bicycle. You can always find a place to chain up your bike, even in busy shopping centers and crowded strip malls. Of course, there is the fear that your bike may get stolen, but cycle shelters have recently become a much needed addition to two-wheel technology. When you take your bike to a bicycle shelter, you have protection and guarantees from criminals.

You don't have to "fill up" a bike. Even cheap economy cars can cost you $100 or more per month to keep it running. The reason, of course, is the constant need of gasoline. Bikes have no such requirements. You will never have to worry about being stranded out in the middle of nowhere with a bike because you forgot to fill up.

Cycling lowers your risk through its elimination of distractions. When you set out from your house or pick up your bike from a cycle shelter, you are much safer than in an automobile, because you are less distracted. It's harder to text or talk on the phone on a bike, and it's much easier to become one with nature instead of a car stereo.
