Bike clothing that should be used when riding

2016/7/25 11:39:59

If you regularly enjoy bike riding you will need to invest in some good quality bike clothing that you will be able to wear on all of your trips. Though none of this clothing is required by law, it does make sense to wear clothing that will keep you warm and, in many cases, safe.

One of the first things that you should invest in is some kind of hi viz clothing that will ensure all other motorists and even cyclists on the road can see you from a distance. Wearing dark clothing when cycling at night will make you hard to spot, so buy a hi visibility jacket or just some reflective ankle or wrist straps that will make you more noticeable.

It can also be smart to invest in cycling jerseys for the summer and winter months so that you can stay warm or cool depending on the weather. You can buy a short-sleeved cycling jersey for the coming summer months and can then save your long-sleeved thermal cycling jersey for the bad weather later in the year.

Of course, this won't keep you dry should the heaven's open. If you don't want to get wet you should get yourself a waterproof cycling jacket, which can keep the rest of your clothing dry - this is ideal if you commute to work and don't want to turn up soaked through! Keeping your legs dry is also ideal and luckily there is more than enough cycling legwear for you to choose from. If you're a road racer you can opt for slim-line black leggings or shorts, or you can go for waterproof over trousers.

A base layer can be worn throughout the year - in the winter you can use it to give yourself an extra layer against the cold, whereas in the summer it can be worn on its own as a cycling top. You can find both long and short-sleeved base layers.

There are a few features of cycling clothing that you will want to look out for when buying. For example, it is always better to choose hi visibility clothing so that you stand out when cycling, as well as clothing made with lightweight and breathable material. This will allow you more movement when cycling and will stop you from overheating. Another useful feature of cycling clothing is a high wicking content and quick drying material, which will keep water from soaking through the clothing and will keep you nice and dry.
