Tips on How to Get the Most Out of a Cycling Training Program

2016/7/25 14:50:56

The best way to ensure that a cycling training program does indeed end up providing you with desirable results is by first setting some goals toward which end you need to devote all your efforts. This in turn means identifying the distances that you can race and to then tailor the cycling training program to suit these distances. So, in case you plan on racing for an hour there is little need to focus too much on base mileage while the needs for an elite race would be different - typically requiring that you ride for five to six hours on a weekly basis.

Divide The Year Into Sections

You can get better results from your cycling training program by splitting the year into certain sections which will ensure that you do not end up spending the entire year doing a single type of cycling training program. This means doing different programs during different times of the year such as winter base training and interval training and also peak training just prior to the actual race.

Focus is very important to proper cycling training program and it is also very necessary during the actual race. Today, racing has become more competitive and so the need to have strong focus is much more of a necessity. In addition, you need to ensure that to get the most out of your cycling training program that you give you sufficient time to rest as well as to recover. This aspect is no less important than your actual cycling training program.

With proper recovery period you can allow your body to relax and be prepared for further training. Flexibility of your cycling training program schedule is another important factor that will help you get better results. In addition, you need to always keep an ear open to the signals that your body gives out. As soon as you suspect or feel that something is going wrong you need to immediately suspend your cycling training program to ensure that you do not injure yourself due to over training.

Last but not least, you need to allow for sufficient time for your body to taper off, and in fact tapering is something that is especially necessary about a week or two weeks prior to the big race day.

Indoor cycling training on a turbo trainer can provide desirable results. Of course it does mean that you must ensure doing this form of training in the proper manner otherwise it can turn into a torturous ordeal. If however you do it the right way the whole training program will be enjoyable and the results too will be according to your expectations.
