Hawaii Mountain Biking Trails

2016/7/25 14:51:10

Hawaii Mountain Biking is some of the greatest in the world. Here you will find a discussion about the top 20 Hawaii Mountain Biking venues and how they are rated by the riders that use them. Five Star ratings are the very best and I would suggest, if your vacation time allows you, to try all the five-star mountain biking trails in Hawaii.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park -- Crater Rim Trail - 3.6 Miles

This volcanic cinder path continues west along the scenic "Uwekahuna Bluff" which incorporates steep cliffs, as high as 480 feet, above the caldera floor. Gazing off into the distance as you are riding, you can see the steaming caldera and Halema'u Crater spitting smoke and fire into the air. Kilauea Caldera is 2.5 miles long and two miles wide and was formed by a series of collapses over hundreds of years. The trail ends at Jaggar Museum which displays facts about the volcano and its geology and history.

Oahu---Manana Trail - 5.6 Miles

The first .35 miles are paved, then a beautiful single track continues up the ridge line, where on a clear day the summits of the Ko'olau Range and the neighboring Wai'anae Range are visible. Steep cliffs with beautiful multi-greens of foliage make it difficult to keep one's attention on the trail. This is one of the most dangerous mountain bike trails in Hawaii if it is raining, because it can be so slippery.

Oahu---Kaaawa ValleyGuided Tour - 4 Miles

This is a guided tour that includes a bike, helmet, bottle of water, and a barbecue lunch when you are finished. Whether you are a rookie or an expert, you are going to enjoy riding through this tropical valley while listening to your guide recount the stories of the ancient warriors. As you pass through two gates in the valley, you will discover cows grazing in the pastures. Part of this tour also includes a 15 minute hike to see the overlook of Kane'ohe Bay and Hakipu'u Valley.

Kauai -- Kokee State Park-Mohihi - Camp 10 Road - 12 Miles

Of all the mountain biking trails in Hawaii, this is probably the one with the most curves, turns, and wild uphills and downhills. When wet, this trail becomes slick as ice and very dangerous. Remember that all hiking trails are off limits to those on bikes.

Oahu -- Queens Beach (Private Property)

Permission is required from the owner Bishop Estate before you can go Hawaii mountain biking on this trail. Twenty acres of coastal property with numerous beginning trails are available to the novice. The terrain consists mostly of dried dirt, wet mud, and deep sand roads. This beach becomes very hot in the sun, so make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
