The Benefits and the Thrill of Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is a sport where the cyclist goes over rough terrain riding a bicycle. In the old days, riding a bike used to be on the streets, dodging vehicles and pedestrians alike. Now, for those who wish to experience the great outdoors and the thrill of speed, mountain biking is the answer.

There are several forms of mountain biking and the most common and popular is cross country biking. This entails going around the countryside or trail. This type of biking has a combination of uphill rides, downhill rides and flat terrain. This is most enjoyable for almost all types f riders.

Mountain Biking To Good Health

Although, many believe that this sport is for thrill seekers and outdoor enthusiasts, it can also be your road to good health. Mountain biking provides the biker with a robust exercise regime that includes cardiac exercise and muscles exercise. The effort that one exerts going up and down mountains and rough roads is a good cardiac workout and also trims down excess fats and reserves.

The rider's lungs also get a good workout because most mountain biking trails are located far from pollution. These bike trails expose the rider to clean, fresh air as well as the beauty of nature. Of course, the effort to bike on the part of the cyclist must be at least two to three times per week to be able to benefit fully from mountain biking. The cycling session should be around and hour or so touring around varying terrain. Too much of downhill or up hill changes the scenario completely.

Another benefit of mountain biking is as an outlet for stress and frustration. Biking, especially in rough terrain can be exhausting in a good way. Mountain biking is not an expensive sport. It only becomes expensive when you start to upgrade your bike parts for after market parts to improve speed, shifting and lightness. When you are still trying to get the feel of mountain biking, it is best to either borrow a bike from a friend of get an inexpensive one. It is also recommended to get your own helmet and other safety gear before riding.
