Simple Steps To Install A Bike Trailer

If you enjoy riding your bike but don't like leaving your young child at home, then a bike trailer is a must buy for you! With a bike trailer, you can now get out there with your child and safely ride around the neighborhood. Trailers can easily be set up just and this guide will cover the steps on how to install your bike trailer. It's easier than you may think!

The first step may require a wrench, unless your bike has a quick release skewer. If you do have a release skewer, release the skewer and then unthread the nut on the wheel axle, which is found on the left side of the bike. If you don't have a release skewer, use a wrench to unscrew the nut.

Included with most trailers, will be a plastic tab washer which will go over the left axle. The trailer should be attached as well. The tab will fit directly over the frame of the bike. If it's not, there's a mistake.

Now you'll need to use the coupler plates and place them into the holes of the tab washer. Make sure the tabs are on the back side of the plates before fitting them into the holes. At this point, there should be a big hole under the axle.

Now at the end of the axle, proceed by replacing the nut. The nut should be tightened, either with a wrench or with your hands if you have a release skewer. Make sure the lever is closed if you do have a release skewer. Otherwise, make sure the nut is on their tight.

The end of the trailer should now fit directly into the large hole on the coupler plate. Included with the trailer will also be a pin to secure the system. The tow bar should be locked in place with the safety pin, which will keep the bar safe. Make sure the pin goes directly through the eyelet on the coupler plate.

Take the safety strap which is found on the tow bar and loop it around the tube of the frame. It should be positioned vertically from the axle. The end of the safety strap should then clip onto the D-ring which can be found on the two-bar.

This may sound difficult, but it's a quick process. Once it's installed, make sure everything is safe and locked into place. Then get out there and enjoy the ride with your child!
