How To Make A Bicycle Trike

It is worthwhile to know how to make a bicycle trike. When your bicycle gets old and it is no longer in use, you can convert it to trike. Trikes can be useful in so many ways for example carrying load or riding in slanted rough roads or transporting stuff. Trikes have increased stability because of an extra wheel. The extra wheel increases the surface area of the cycle and lowers its point of gravitation spreading out the weight and balancing the body.

To make a bicycle trike you will need:

  • Welding material
  • Sheets of metal
  • Wrenches
  • Screwdrivers
  • Paint
  1. There are two types of trikes. A trike with two wheels in front and one wheel at the back is called Tadpole trike. And a trike with one wheel in front and two at the rear is a Delta trike. Pick the trike you want to make. This article will focus on the delta trike.
  2. To make the bicycle trike, remove the wheel from the rear axle using proper tools like jack, screwdrivers and wrenches etc. Unscrew the bolts that hold the wheel intact with the trike's frame. Slowly turn the wheel till it comes off. Set it aside and get ready to work on the frame.
  3. Design out the width of your frame of cycle according to the length of it. Most trikes are half the distance wide as long. Calculate the dimensions of your rear axle. While calculating keep in mind the existing axle length.
  4. Weld the axle together and attach wheels to it. Tighten them with nuts. Install the chain and pedals to finish making the bicycle trike.
  5. Paint the newly welded axle with the color you want.
