How to plan a fishing trip

Fishing is one of the most freeing experiences on the planet. It is a time to gather ones thoughts and be one with the nature around themselves. Fishing can often be experienced in many different ways however. For many people, they do not get the opportunity to go on and participate in a true fishing excursion. From my experience, when a fishing excursion is set up the right way and in the right place, life long memories are made. Through my past experiences I will attempt to provide a how-to in the ways of planning your idea fishing trip.

There are a lot of things to think about when going on a fishing trip. What do I bring? Should I bring food? Do I bring 2 fishing poles? Do I bring 4 fishing poles? Will there be Musky fishing? Do I need to bring a sleeping bag? These are all things that go through a person's mind when planning a trip and they are all very good questions. I will attempt to break down the adequate way to plan the perfect fishing trip. The way I will break this how-to down is by talking about your budget, where you want to fish, how you want to lodge, food/water, and the overall fishing tackle you need to think about for the trip.

The first thing you need to think about when planning a fishing trip along with any other vacation, is the budget. The budget you are able to work with plays into every facet of your excursion. If you have more money to work with then you can obviously plan it the way you want with all of the amenities. The budget plays into where you will fish, where you will stay, if you need a boat, and what other fishing gear you will need to bring.

The second thing you need to think about is where? I know this is an obvious step to planning a fishing trip but it tends to be the most difficult. Choosing the destination can strain your mind because you truly want the best experience possible. My response to that is, listen to your friends and do research on fish migration/feeding patterns. This is the best way to narrow down the places you most want to fish. The next stage in planning, is budget.

Once you pin-point where you are looking to fish, you need to figure out where you want to stay. The choices on where you will stay greatly effect the overall experience of the fishing trip. You can stay in places ranging from a nice cabin all the way to island hopping with a tent. These different types of lodging are suited for different types of outdoors-men so factoring that into your fishing trip plans is essential. For the more in-doors outdoors-men I recommend an outfitter.
