What Is The Best Type Of Waders?

2016/7/16 15:21:48

The answer to this question, as with so many other questions in the fishing industry, is that there is to best type of wader. The best type of wader is the type that you prefer; it's as simple as that. I'll go ahead and give you an overview, so that you can begin to make an informed decision, as to which type best suites your fishing needs. There are basically 3 types of waders:

1) Rubber Waders - These are the waders that you can find at your local super center. Rubber waders are by far the least expensive. They are also the least comfortable and functional. If you for some reason need a pair of waders in a pinch or just for emergencies, rubberized waders are the way to go.

2) Neoprene Waders - On the cost scale this type of wader is more than #1 and less than #3. Neoprene waders are also wonderful for fishing cold water and climate situations. Neoprene waders don't let perspiration out, which can lead to dampness on the anglers' legs. This type of wader is quite durable though and can stand up to quite a bit of abuse. I have a friend who's had a pair of neoprene waders for over 15 years! Neoprene is without question his favorite.

3) Breathable Waders - On the cost scale these are the most expensive, but they are also by far the most comfortable. While neoprene waders are warm in cold weather/water, breathable waders can be just as warm, by layering clothes underneath. One of the great things about breathables is that they are cool in hot weather. When it's hot outside, I just wear shorts under my breathable waders and am good to go. Breathable waders also "breath", which means that they allow perspiration to escape from your body as you sweat. This adds to the comfort factor as well.

Once you decide on which type of wader you would like to use, now you need to decide between two types of boot designs. There are only two and this is simply a matter of preference as well.

1) Boot Foot - Boot Foot waders are exactly what the name implies. These waders have a boot built into them. You simply put the waders on and your ready to wade in the water. They are very convenient, but less comfortable if you do a lot of walking in your waders.

2) Stocking Foot - Stocking foot waders have a neoprene stocking built into them. You then have to slip a wading shoe over the stocking foot for protection. This type of wader is my personal favorite, mostly because walking in them with my breathable waders is just like walking in a pair of khaki pants. It's amazingly comfortable.

The information provided above should give you all of the information that you need on which type of wader is best for your particular type of fishing. Remember, there is no right answer. It's up to you and the type of fishing that you do most. It isn't nearly as confusing as it might seem, and with a little research, you'll be good to go.
