Sport Fishing and Fish Finders

Sport fishing means different things to different people. You could be competing for an actual trophy or you could be looking to bring in a fish bigger than your friends. When it is a competition for a trophy, you have a specific time frame to bring in your fish. There are other requirements such as the weight of the line that enter into the points that you get. Usually the line is lighter than normal. Bass fishing is a popular competitive sport, though by no means the only one. There are many other types of competitions, including ice fishing. Some competitions allow you to bring along a fish finder. Others do not. Therefore, you need to know the rules ahead of time.

What is a fish finder? It is a tool that helps you see fish activity and structures and depth below your boat. Different fish finders give different pictures. Some are fuzzier. Some are sharper. Some give tinier details. What you can see on the screen can translate into either a place where the fish may be hiding, or, small details may actually be some fish themselves. The size of the screen, the definition, the ability to use it at night, the depth, the angle and more help you decide where the fish is so you can cast to it. When a screen is easy to view in any kind of light, it helps you find what fish are there, and the type of structure where they may be hiding. Some fish finders make it easier to separate the fish from the structures they are near. Some have GPS that helps you pinpoint the location to a few yards. The correct fish finder can help you find the specific fish you are after. So of course, having a fish finder makes it easier to bring in a fish for the competition. It is up to you to decide if you prefer a competition with or without a fish finder.
