So You Are Taking Up Carp Fishing

2016/7/16 16:30:42

Taking up Carp fishing is a slightly different task than other fishing habits as there are tips and concerns that come specific to the breed. On top of these there are health issues that one has to be aware of when becoming interested in fishing for Carp.

As they are the most essential let us start with the type of bait, line and hook when looking to catch the fish. This type of fish tends to take long runs and with that in mind a reel bail needs to be left open when fishing. If this is forgotten and the bail is left closed a line can easily be run and a rod can be drawn into the water before you have a chance at the fish.

The best sort of rod for Carps is quite heavy to medium action rods, set with between eight and twelve pound lines with hooks from any size two to six. You can find such rods from online suppliers or high street stores.

Now that a fish has been caught the next step is to prepare it, this type of fish is very healthy and considered a rare delicacy in some places. However preparing it to be eaten can be a bit of a task because of a set of small floating bones that run laterally along the fish. It is important that they are broken and removed to make the fish into a proper meal.

Additionally there is a special health concern when deciding to consume the fish after catching it. Because of a combination of factors unique to the fish, their longer average life span, feeding habits and fat content, they are more likely to accumulate environmental contaminates and become a hazard to humans.

This issue is multiplied when dealing with this fish in urban or suburban areas, to give you an idea of how it can be an issue the New York Department of Health recommends to eat a half pound or less of this type of fish in a week. Taking up Carp fishing offers a unique set of problems to be addressed with as well as some delightful payoff and a challenging hunt for your new adventure.
