Vacations Centered Around Fishing and Water Activities Awaits You in Destin Florida

2016/7/16 16:33:12

Destin Florida is known as the land of sugar-white beaches, water the deep color of emeralds, and a fishing fleet that easily puts any other in the world to shame. This Florida city can easily be mistaken for the gorgeous seascape of any exotic island chain. Snorkeling in these waters reinforces this mirage.

Situated on the peninsula that faces the Gulf of Mexico on the one side and Choctawhatchee Bay on the other, its proximity to both Pensacola and Panama City make vacations here a must for the family ready to enjoy swimming and snorkeling in the bright green surf. Here there is also the opportunity for crabbing and long walks along the water line. Fishing in Destin takes place along the lagoon of the harbor, the jetty and from the decks of copious charter fishing vessels.

Charter fishing boats are often outfitted with platforms to launch and retrieve snorkelers, or the very coveted opportunity to swim with dolphins, water skiing and of course just leisurely boating. Vacations on the Emerald bay can be as relaxing or action-packed as the tourist desires - while schools of fish flit beneath the bright green water's surface. Of particular note - for anyone interested in fishing here - is the Destin Fishing Rodeo that takes place each year in October. Pros and beginners cast out their lines in the hopes of catching the big one. Should it prove elusive, snorkeling is another means of coming face to face with the local fish population - albeit without a pole.

Catering to the many tourists who would book their vacations in Destin Florida there are a plethora of hotels and condo units for after-hours relaxation. These rental properties are excellent bases for families who are fishing in the area (or decide that snorkeling in this town and the surrounding waters is more to their liking) and also planning on making land excursions part and parcel of their vacations. In addition to the water activities, for which the area is famous, there are also themed niche stores, hole-in-the wall restaurants and souvenir shops that all provide a lot of local color for anyone visiting.

While fishing and snorkeling are premier tourist activities, some families enjoy the nearness of Fort Pickens and the site of the former Fort McRee, both of which provide a look back into the Civil War history of the United States. Of course, those who plan their vacations in Destin - Florida refers to it as the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village" - are sure to fit in at least a little bit of fishing; there is just one drawback to family vacations in this area - Fido is not allowed on city beaches.
