Anglers or fishing enthusiasts the world over know the thrill, excitement, and pride involved in catching tuna fish. Indeed, tuna are among the most beautiful species of fish and are always considered as prized catches. If you are out to catch some tuna in your long-planned fishing weekend getaway, it would help a lot to understand the nature of this fish. Doing so will help you catching more tuna and you can even end up with large-sized ones.

There are several kinds of tuna fish and most of them thrive in tropical and temperate waters. You can some species of tuna near the shore while others thrive in deeper waters. The biggest ones are often found out in the sea so it would be a good idea to use a fishing boat if you are planning to catch good tuna. The most popular species of tuna include the yellowfin tuna, bluefin tuna, big eye tuna, albacore, and skipjack.

You must also keep in mind that tuna are fast swimmers, so it would indeed be advisable to use a boat in catching this kind of fish. In fact, there are more than a couple of ways to fish for tuna. One of the most popular ways of catching tuna is the Andalusian method. Other methods include the use of cages or what fishermen know as the cage system or fish farming, longline fishing, purse seines, pole and line fishing, the use of harpoon guns, the use of aggregating devices, as well as big game.

For most fishing enthusiasts, trolling is perhaps the most effective way of catching tuna fish. In trolling, you will need to maintain a good speed of about 5 to 8 miles an hour. At this speed, you will be able to make the fish dance to your speed with the help of baits and lures instead of you having to catch them all over the seeming endless waters. There are those who complain that no matter how they troll, they just cannot seem to have a good catch of tuna. Perhaps their problem is they are not able to read the signs given by nature, such as diving birds, time of day, and the current season.
