In Search of Trout Fishing Bait

2016/7/16 16:35:59

Every fisherman has a favorite trout fishing bait. For most of us, this is simply the last bait we had luck with. Others have a favorite that they feel consistently catches big trout. If you don't have a favorite yet, then ask some veterans for a suggestion. Here is some good trout fishing bait to get you started.

Small minnows make fro great trout fishing bait. These little fish move well in the water and provide an exciting treat for most fish. This is a great choice early in the season when fish seem extra lazy. Sometimes all it takes is a little minnow to get those big lurking fish to come out and eat.

A classic trout fishing bait is the worm. Night crawlers have been used to catch fish for generations. The reason for this is they work. Wiggling worms are irresistible to trout. Of course, worms don't always work. They can be difficult to cast long distances, often falling off the hook. Using worms in fast moving water can seem impossible because it is too difficult to keep them from getting swept off the hook.

Another great choice of trout fishing bait are insect larva. Hellgrammites are a favorite of many trout fisherman. These are larva of the Dobsonfly. They make great trout fishing bait, because they have a primitive nervous system and continue to move around long after they are placed on the fishing hook.

A Little Fishing Strategy

Some new fisherman can't figure out why they don't catch fish. Even when using the same trout fishing bait as their neighbor they don't land a thing. This is often because they are too noisy and continually spook the fish. However, if you take care to be quite, you can often pull numerous trout out of the same patch of water.

When fishing rivers, it is good to cast up stream. Try to cast beyond the point where you expect to catch fish. This can be effective night crawlers or other trout fishing bait. Remember, fish are looking upstream. So if you are moving along the river downstream or casting downstream, you might end up spooking the fish.

Running low on trout fishing bait? Many fisherman cut up suckers or chub and use them as bait. This can be a good tactic if you catch one by accident. You might find that your trout fishing bait doesn't catch any fish. Another common mistake is too fish at the wrong time of the day. Try fishing in the early morning or late evening. This depends on the feeding cycle of fish in the water your are fishing, so it might take some trial and error.
