Selecting The Correct Fishing Lure To Hook The Perfect Fish

2016/7/16 16:36:52

For the discerning fisherman, quality equipment is very important if you want to hook that perfect catch. You don't need a lot, but with the appropriate tools you are in with a much better chance of landing that dream fish. A good fishing rod, a strong line and live bait or a good fishing lure will help your chances no end.

It is hard to rival live bait when it comes to coaxing a fish to bite. That said, live bait is not always easily available so the next best thing is a good fishing lure. In fact, with the the proper fishing lure you have every chance of making a big catch.

A fishing lure basically recreates the actions and colors of live bait to encourage the fish to bite. Lures can have one, two, or perhaps three hooks that will catch the fish when it bites.

Fishing lures are usually used with fishing rods. They are cast out by the fisherman and simulate the behavior of the prey as they are brought back in. With a bit of know how, the fisherman can also use the reel to help make the fishing lure's movements look more authentic to a potential catch.

There are many different kinds of fishing lures for different types of fish, fishing and settings. Here are a few of the most popular options:

Spoon lures - To us these just look like the top of a spoon. However, as they move through the water these fishing lures create flashes of light which recreates the sun reflecting off a fish's skin.

Artificial flies - These fishing lures are used in fly fishing. The lure is in the shape of a winged insect which the fisherman makes flit on the surface of the water.

Plugs - These fishing lures are in the shape of small fish and move accordingly as they move underwater.

Soft lures - These are a basic type of fishing lure, made from plastic or rubber to resemble worms, lizards and all kinds of water dwellers.

Fishing lures have a few advantages over live bait. As mentioned, they are easily at hand whenever you decide to go fishing. Also, they cost less as they can be used again and again, whereas real bait has an extremely short lifetime. What is more, by using fishing lures you are helping to make fishing more sustainable. Importantly, you will help boost the fish population by not adding to the harvesting of live bait. In addition, it is common knowledge that lures cause less injury to fish during 'catch and release' fishing, again helping to maintain fish populations.

Fishing lures are available in any fishing tackle shop, on the internet or you can easily make your own. Effective lures can be made from many household objects, including metal, plastic, string, foil, wire or wood. If it glitters and looks like bait it could be enough to land you your next big fish.
