Secrets Of Using A Medium Light Walleye Perch Ice Fishing Rod

2016/7/16 16:38:54

Ice fishing for walleye and perch is fast becoming a popular sport as the benefits are becoming more well-known. It gives the angler an exciting experience like no other type of fishing can provide.

You have the opportunity to catch some of the biggest fish around and there is little competition. You can enjoy a nice peaceful fishing trip that can also be one of the most memorable. If you enjoy the sport of fishing but have never tired ice-fishing, it's something you should try at least once. It's truly an experience you will always remember.

When ice fishing, it's recommended that you search for the walleye or perch in the warmest parts of the water. They can be found around structures because the water is warmer and the food source is more plentiful in these locations. They can also be found around channels, ledges and inlets. Knowing where to find the fish under the ice is the biggest challenge of all.

A fish finder is an excellent tool that can help to locate the schools of fish easier. You don't want to be drilling more holes in the ice than necessary. Once you find the spots where they seem to be plentiful, it's up to you to use the best methods available to reel them in. You will always get the best results when you use the right equipment. It's recommended that you use a medium to light weight ice fishing rod when fishing for walleye and perch.

Secrets of Using a Medium to Light Action Ice Fishing Rod

There are several tips that can help you have more success each time you go ice fishing that will help you reel in more fish. When you talk about a medium to light action rod you are actually referring to the power of the rod and how much force it takes to make the rod bend with the weight of the fish. The medium action works well for the walleye because they will bend under the weight of the fish but they are still strong enough to avoid snapping in half. These rods will start to bend about half way down the length of the rod and continue up to the handle.

A light action rod is best for catching perch. Therefore, when you use a medium to light weight rod you can easily catch both walleyes and perch. The faster the action of the rod the more sensitive it will be. This is important too because you need to be able to feel when the fish takes the bait. Both species tend to have a lighter bite in the winter months.
