Sea Fishing Tips You Can Use Anywhere

The tips to catching the big ones in the ocean aren't big secrets at all. These tips are tried , true and tested. Depending on what kind of ocean fishing you plan to do, following these tips should help in pulling in the big ones. The bait, the tackle, and the timing of ocean fishing have all in the world to do with catching deep sea fish.

Fishing in the deep ocean is a lot different than sitting on the bank of a lake. The most that these two have in common is the hope to catch the big one. If you have never had any experience in ocean fishing, don't go out with an assortment of lures that you won't be able to use or rods that won't be able to handle catching the big one! For instance, if you want to fish for snapper or small kingfish, you'll want a rod that is a 6 to 9 weight.

Make sure the rod isn't made rod cheap metal. The rod you choose needs to be saltwater resistant and tough. Remember that the ocean gives fish a lot more space and distance to pull. Make sure you choose the right line because some ocean fish really do have a bite, and teeth to go with it and severing a fisherman's line would be no problem.

The bait and strength of line you'll use in ocean fishing depends on what kind of fish you want to catch. If you want to get a White Sea Bass, try squid on the line or if you would rather have Calico Bass, you'll need a chum line with cut or live bait. If you are out there wanting to catch a few Sheephead, use shrimp or live bait and make you have at least a 20# test line because Sheephead are toothy. Barracudas are another fish with a bite and like anchovies and other small fish. Again, you'll want to have at least a 20# or 30# test line for barracuda fishing. Naturally, the bigger the fish, the bigger line you'll need.

Albacore Tuna are a popular fish for catching and eating. You would need at least a 30# pound test line for Albacore, and anchovies or sardines are a choice bait. Another popular fish in ocean fishing is the Lingcod. These are fish with a mouth full of teeth, too, and eat shrimp, crabs, and mollusks. Lures that are silver and shiny work well for these fish, but shrimp works well, too.

A line of 25# or 30# test works for Lingcod.

One tip that is important in ocean fishing is how to properly bait your hook. You don't want to feed all the fish, you want to catch them! Improperly baiting your hook will give the fish the opportunity to take the bait and leave you empty-handed! The size of the bait varies from anchovies and sardines, which are 3 to 6 inches long up to 12 inches for herring. If you use live bait, remember that there are places to sink the hook that will optimize your bait's swimming action. You'll want to do this correctly or you will lose your bait.
