The Top Walleye Fishing Spots In Ontario Canada

There are many places in Ontario, Canada to go fishing for walleye. The top places to fish for walleye might be different from what some other anglers recommend, but then again, there are so many places that every fishing spot is the best place for someone. Some of the most heard about watering holes to fish come with rave reviews from other anglers.

Eagle Lake is a popular walleye lake. The ice out starts about the first week of May and this is when you will see the walleye moving to the spawning grounds. The lake offers such a diverse habitat for the walleye as far as spawning locations that you will find many different areas to fish pre or post spawn. The spring walleye can be found in the warmer water temperatures by the mouth of creeks and where there are some slower currents.

Lake Scugog is a well-known walleye fishing hole. The spring months will find walleye at the mouth of the Scugog River. During the summer, the walleye fill the main lake and look for schools of baitfish. The fall is when the walleye move to the shallower water while on a feeding frenzy. With winter right around the corner, the walleye are looking for larger size food. If you think ice fishing is something you want to try, Lake Scugog is the place to be for ice fishing. The lake becomes a town of its own as ice shanties are planted all over the lake.

Rainey Lake is another great place to fish for walleye. You can catch some nice sized walleyes fishing this lake. The walleye can be found by the mouth of the lake by the Lake of the Woods entryway. The water temperatures keep the walleye in the lake and spawning starts in May or as soon as the water temperatures rise to about fifty-eight degrees. Many anglers enjoy a day of fishing in the waters of Rainy Lake.

Lake of the Woods has a thick population of walleye. There is not just a few areas to fish, you can fish just about anywhere on the Lake of the Woods and walk away with your daily catch of walleye. Summer and fall months are best fished at the South Shore, by Morris Point Gap. During the spawn, fish the mouth of the Rainey Lake. You can also fish near the Franz Jevne State Park. When the ice fishing starts, South Shore is the place to be with or without your ice shanty. There are always walleye to be caught in the lakes.

Lake Nipigon is a place to go for some trophy-sized walleyes. This lake drains into Lake Superior by way of the Nipigon River. With ninety miles of water and a width of sixty-four miles, there are plenty of places to find the walleye. There are over four hundred islands to fish by. Early April is the best time to start fishing for walleye, but you have to look near the tributaries and shallow waters by the islands.
