Bass fishing is considered the number one water sport in the world. It's loved by anglers of all ages and enjoyed by the novice and the professional angler.

Canada is well-known for its great bass fishing and for the many anglers that visit throughout the year to take advantage of all its wonderful fishing areas. It's an excellent place to visit when you want to get away and enjoy a great bass fishing trip.

The smallmouth bass prefer a moderate current but you can find them in all types of water located throughout Canada such as cool clear streams, creeks, lakes, rivers and ponds. The smallmouth bass can be found along the shorelines most anytime of the year and they also stay around rocks and other structures both man made and natural.

Knowing when and where to go fishing for bass in Canada can make a big difference in how well your trip goes. As a general rule, the best time to go bass fishing in Canada is during the months of March through June.

This is the time of year when anglers from all over travel to Canada to get in on some of the action. You can expect this time of year to be full of fun and excitement.

Bass are an aggressive species that will strike at just about anything that crosses their path. However, sometimes they will be pickier than at other times.

Just because something worked well on one occasion doesn't mean it will work the next time you visit that spot. It's for this reason that you should have a variety of baits to make sure you are covered no matter what mood the bass are in.

Naturally, the bass feed on crayfish, shad, night crawlers and minnows the most. The bass tend to avoid direct sunlight so the best fishing time is in the early morning or late in the evening. Overcast days are also a good time to go bass fishing and many anglers enjoy night fishing because it can be very productive.

Bass Fishing Techniques

The technique you use will greatly depend on the type of water in which you are fishing. Therefore, there is no certain thing that you can do that will work everytime you go out in every situation.

There are some basic techniques that you can use as a guide for the different types of water. For instance, when fishing in streams it's recommended that you cast your line upstream above the bass. This will allow your bait to drift downstream through the area where they are waiting and searching for food.
