The Trusty Fishing Rod Holder Debunked

2016/7/16 16:56:02

Fishing is a favorite pastime enjoyed by many across the world, especially in the United States of America. Scientists have attributed the thrill derived from fishing as resulting from one of human beings' most subdued nature; the predatory instinct. Because of the convenience associated with them, fishing rods are the preferred equipment of choice. Rod holders have therefore become important accessories to this type of fishing gear to the extent at which the two are sold as a unit.

Definition:
The rod holder is defined in two connotations. Firstly, it refers to a fishing rod accessory which comprises a structure in which the equipment is stored while in transit and not in use. This either takes the form of a portable bag or a solid compartment in a boat. Secondly, the name could also refer to a special hook on a wall or big boat from which a fishing rod could be hung.

Importance of rod holders
The rod holder offers important benefits to a fisherman all of which relate to inconvenience associated with carrying a fishing rod. For example the portable holder is conveniently designed so that it can be strapped across a person's shoulder thereby freeing up the hands to carry other things. Boat rod holders are used to preempt unwanted movement of the fishing rod as the boat rocks from side to side during its escapades in turbulent water masses.

Types of rod holders
The types of rod holders are commonly classified into two categories: portable and fixed boat rod holders. Portable holders, which are easy to carry, are designed to hold the fishing rod while traveling on foot. Boat holders on the other hand are fixed compartments on a boat which secure the fishing rod firmly during boat rides.

Construction Material
The portable holders are usually made of cloth fabric that is commonly artificial in nature. Artificial fabrics are flexible as well as resistant to the ravages of weather and microbial attack. The rod holder found on a boat is usually consistent with the type of material used for the boat's construction. This material is usually corrosion resistant metal or treated wood.

Desirable features
Characteristics that ensure that real value is derived from this product include:

Light weight: This feature aims at reducing discomfort associated with handling the equipment, as well as a precaution that aims at preventing boat overloading.

High strength: The material of construction should offer strength necessary to accommodate the impact resulting from a vibrating fishing rod.

Correct shape: The shape of the holder should be spacious enough to hold the fishing rod without strain.
