Whether you're an experienced angler or a novice fisherman, spending a day under the guidance and tutelage of a captain that knows just where the fish will be biting is an unparalleled experience. Even if you have only nominal interest in the sport itself, it's sure to be a memory you won't soon forget. To make sure it's as memorable as it should be (and for the right reasons), there are four things that you should remember to bring with you as you.

Sunglasses

If you've never been out on a boat before, you may have only the slightest idea about how bright the sun can be on the water. When there are no trees, buildings, and other obstructions blocking the sun, it can be nothing short of blinding. Combine this with the fact that it will be bouncing off the water as well and you're in for some trouble, if you don't bring sunglasses. Many fishing charters will have some on the boat, but don't count on that.

Camera

Depending on what you catch, you may or may not be able to keep it. Depending on where you stand ethically, you may not even want to. Either way, though, you'll want to bring a camera along so you can capture the magic of the day and have photographic evidence of your haul. If all you come back with are exaggerated fish stories, you won't be able to impress your friends nearly as easily!

Sun Block

Again, if you don't have a lot of experience out on a boat, you can easily underestimate how quickly the sun can burn your skin. Don't take a chance. Wear good sun block and reapply regularly. Most fishing charters will have some on the boat to share, but the supply may not last long, depending on how many others are taking advantage of the community bottle. You'll be better off bringing your own.

Water

Some people use fishing charters as a convenient excuse to load up on their favorite adult beverage, while some captains frown on this practice. Make sure you know which situation you're going into before you load up a cooler full of adult drinks. Regardless of the drinking policy, however, make sure you bring some water. With the sun beating down mercilessly, you can get dehydrated easily and it helps to replenish your fluids frequently.
