When going fishing, there may be some things you should know if you抮e not used to doing this type of recreational outing on your own. Some people think you simply get out in the water and throw your line out, but there抯 more to it than that.

Deciding to take yourself or your family fishing can be a fun, exciting outing. Yet, if you抮e new to the process, it抯 essential that you keep a few things in mind in order to make the day really fun and safe. Sometimes you may choose to hang out on a boat, or you can stay local depending on your mood. Whatever the case, you抮e in for lots of fun.

Safety

One of the biggest things to keep in mind when going out fishing is safety. Being out on open water can be lots of fun or really dangerous depending on whom you抮e with. You need to be sure to wear life jackets and always stay alert and aware of what抯 going on. Also, do not drink alcohol, since this can impair your judgment. Furthermore, if you really want to do it right, go out with a qualified charter and feel at ease on the water.

Preparation and Supplies

Bait, tackle, poles and more are common necessities when spending a day fishing. Regardless if you want to get on a boat or spend the day at the nearby park or water hole, you need to be prepared. In addition, if you抮e in the sun all day, be sure to dress light, wear sunscreen, a hat and shades since you抣l be sitting around most of the time waiting on your line to wiggle.

Capturing

Depending on the type of fish you抮e going for, there are different ways to capture them. For instance, freshwater and saltwater fish can be taken in various methods. This means you can use a pole, nets, trolling lines, buckets and more. However, it is not okay to poison, blow up, shoot or shock these aquatic creatures. If you抮e new to this activity, it抯 a good idea to know how to capture them before getting in a boat and getting on the water.

Measuring

Once you get the hang of things while fishing, you may catch an assortment of seafood. When the day wraps up and you抮e ready to head back in, it抯 a good idea to measure what you抳e caught. There are many ways to do this. You can measure the entire length of the fish and that means from the tip of the snout to the tip of the tail fin. Another way to measure is by examining and measuring from the lower jaw to the fork at the tail. Furthermore, some people decide to measure the carcass.
