Three Mistakes to Avoid When Booking Hawaii Accommodation

2016/7/18 10:25:54

There are a few things you can do when trying to book a Hawaii accommodation that will cut down on the hassle and ensure that your experience is as pleasurable as possible. Here are the three biggest mistakes you should avoid:

Booking Hawaii accommodation mistake #1: Making deals with unreliable people.
While it can be difficult to gauge a person’s level of trustworthiness without direct interaction, there are some red flags which, if encountered, should put you on the alert.  If these issues arise than maybe this isn’t the best Hawaii accommodation you could find. These red flags include:
-    Getting different or vague answers about exactly how much, and for what, you’re being charged.
-    Not getting a receipt or documentation of any kind for the deal you’ve made.
-    Being requested to provide an upfront “deposit” before you even arrive.
It’s important to feel that you can trust the person you’re booking your accommodation with. If you can’t understand what they are saying, get conflicting answers about what they want money for or you simply get a bad feeling when talking to them, run away. You’ll thank yourself in the long run.

Booking Hawaii accommodation mistake #2: Not coordinating your accommodation with your activities.
Yes, most of the Hawaiian Islands are relatively small, but that distance still feels like a lot if you find yourself with lodging on one side of the island, and no transportation to get to the other side where you’ve booked activities.

Public transportation in Hawaii is generally decent so long as you’re not carting along a bunch of luggage (1 small suitcase per person only) but generally, the buses only run on the main roads and quits early. Taxis get extremely expensive if you rely upon them for your entire trip and many rental cars have restrictions pertaining to where you can drive. They also require booking far in advance to ensure availability.

You’re better off booking Hawaii accommodations that are either close to where you plan to spend the majority of your vacation, or find providers who provide courtesy tours, drop offs and pick ups to your desired locations. For the biggest savings buy your flight, accommodation and transport all as one inclusive package.

Booking Hawaii accommodations mistake #3: Being too cheap.
No, this does not mean that you need to spend top dollar to have a good time while you visit Hawaii. It does mean that you often get what you pay for. The accommodation that costs half the going rate could be a “diamond in the rough,” it’s true. It could also be a run-down abode full of cockroaches, mold and sketchy security, be located way too far off the beaten path or simply be a scam.

Shop around for the best deal, but request pictures and inquire about the cancelation policy before you make a commitment.

Hawaii is a phenomenal place to plan your vacation, and there’s no reason that you should experience any bad “mojo” while you’re here. Use caution and a little common sense while booking Hawaii accommodation to ensure the best possible trip.
