A Pontoon Fishing Boat is Excellent for Fly Fishing

2016/7/18 10:30:23

One of the best boats for fly fishing is a pontoon fishing boat. These pontoon fishing boats are set up for one man or two men specifically designed for fly fishing. A pontoon fly fishing boat is a small 8 foot boat that sits on two pontoons on either side of the fisherman. These pontoons can either be solid air bladders or inflatable. The pontoon hulls are in a V hull position which greatly minimizes water resistance when paddling and allows for perfect maneuverability. The pontoons are connected by a frame and contain a sitting area for the angler and paddles. Pontoon fishing boats are paddled similarly to that of a rowboat. The frame of the pontoon fishing boat makes paddling a breeze when the wind is contained. These pontoon fishing boats seem to glide through the water.

Popular

The fiberglass fishing boats and the pontoon fishing boats are now the most popular fishing boats for fly fishing. Pontoon fishing boats are relatively new and only became available in the 1980’s. They have caught on quickly because of their ease of use and economic value. They have quickly caught on in the fishing community and have become the most popular of the fly fishing boats. They sit much higher than the small dinghy type fishing boat. It is easier to cast because the chair sits higher and the balance is so evenly distributed. They are lightweight and are easily put onto a trailer. Many fishermen who own these pontoon fishing boats keep them in a marina where they are used and maintained. All the fisherman has to do is bring his fishing tackle and ice chest to the marina and he is set to go. These boats are very durable and extremely rugged. They are very maneuverable due to the V shaped pontoon hulls. They can make quick turns and long paddles across flat water.

Versatile

These pontoon fishing boats are also very versatile and are equally at home on rivers or lakes. They can also run white water. The inflatable pontoons can easily fit into most trunks and the solid air bladders can fit into the back of a pick-up truck. They can be packed up and set up or put on the back of a mini trailer. They have plenty of little compartments for storage of necessities. It is a great family fishing boat for teaching the young son or grandson how to fly fish.
