When most people think of bass fishing, they think of something that is done simply for pleasure and for a relaxing time. Also, it serves as an excellent source of dinner while on a camping trip but there is much more to it then just that. And learning a little bit about the history of bass fishing will help everyone understand that. It is more then a hobby, it is a multi-billion dollar industry since this sport has evolved over the years.

Black bass are found in a lot of different types of bodies of water such as rivers, creeks, ponds, lakes, reservoirs, and in those dirty looking ditches that are along side some roads. History of bass fishing has shown us that these fish are great served on a dinner table, as the flesh is nice and firm and white. Once cooked, the bass fish gives a very delicate taste and is something that a lot of fish lovers enjoy. But a lot of fishers are now just in it for sport more so then feeding the family and they are practicing the catch and release method.

Fishing For Population Control

Throughout the history of bass fishing, there seems to have always been a need for population control. If bass fishing did not take place, and some of those fish not kept, then the population of the bass would get completely out of hand. An overpopulation of bass is simply bad for the fish, as they would not have enough room, oxygen, and food to live off of. Our previous history of bass fishing using the catch and release method has added fuel to the fire in terms of over population of the bass as they need to be caught and removed from the water.

If all of the largemouth bass that are caught in a certain area and less then one pound in weight or the bluegills are over one half pound, then you probably have a situation where there is an over population of bass. History of bass fishing will tell us that this means that not enough bass are being caught and this means that the growth of the fish is being stunted. The best way to fix the problem is to start fishing and removing the fish from the water instead of throwing them back into the water. With a little bit of care and action, an over population of bass does not have to happen.
