When fishing boats gets a makeover

2016/7/18 16:14:48

Old machineries are symbols of the past. Today, we see and heard a lot of individuals taking interest on restoring their old cars, trucks, and automobiles to give back its former glory. As expensive as it may seem, the owners didn't mind spending tons of cash just to see these vintage beauties back on their old selves.

The marine industry also follows the trend.  There are several reports and features about old fishing boats and vessels being restored and displayed in museums. Some of these ships have historical value and serve as a reminder of the past. Many people, especially boat-lovers, are quite happy with this movement as people who are not knowledgeable on boats and marine vessels will know and have an idea on the evolution of these sea behemoths.

One of the most famous restorations is a vintage Danish fishing boat that was used in WWII to save thousands of people during the war. Although the restoration started from an awful phone call and criticism, that said incident triggered people to donate cash and equipment to restore the 70-year old boat.  After the restoration, it was donated to a museum so that more people could see this wonder.

The most recent boat restoration was the 94-year old Edward and Mary RX 74. The 28-feet-long lugger is said to be the first Hasting boat that has an engine on it. According to the reports of HastingObserver.com, the boat was built on 1919 on a beach near a London Trader pub for a gentleman named Edward Breed and named the boat after his children. Edward and Mart was supposed to be used in the Dunkirk evacuation in the 1940s but for some reasons, it was not used.

This vessel definitely seen better days. Old age and other destructive elements caused its deterioration. Good thing there are people who are willing to spend time and effort to repair and restore this wood-made vessel. Now, it is beautifully displayed in the museum for people to see and admire.

But unlike cars and automobiles, restoring these vintage marine transports are an entirely different matter. Most of the materials used to make some of these boats are either obsolete or hard to find, that's why restoration experts have to use their wit and available resources to get the job done.

Restoring these ships has deeper significance, I think. For one, boat manufacturers can make this as an inspiration to build more stable boats.  Aquatruck, one of the trusted boat makers, always take this matter to heart and ensure that they manufacture sturdy and safe boats Australia that residents and other countries can rely on. And they are also driven by innovation, as they made sure that the materials they use on building their vessels are strong enough to withstand time, weather, and corrosion. Most of their boats are made of high grade polyethylene, a tested and durable material that is lighter than wood and aluminum.  Most of the stable boats Tasmania communities used are made of the said material.

Some may think that it is pointless to restore old things. But looking back, we can also get a view of the future. I'm pretty sure that boat manufacturers will come up with new techniques and materials in boat-building for the meantime, we can be assured that the vessels that we are using today is as safe and stable as it was back then.
