Line Size Makes a Big Difference in Summer Fishing

2016/7/21 11:37:24

If there is a trick to summer fishing and I was asked to narrow it down to one item that would make a difference in catching fish or not; it would be line size. Especially if you are fishing deep water for suspending fish, nothing changes the results better than going to the smallest diameter line you can get away with and still land the fish. I think as the summer heat wares on the bass they become skeptical of movement and line size becomes more important.
When the bass can see your line, as it does in the summer time the water gets clearer everyday as we have very little rain and heavy line can scare a fish off. Don抰 be stubborn and refuse to change line it is a small price to pay for a good sack in the heat of the summer. I believe that one of the best ways to go to small line with the onset of fluorocarbon is to use the latest and greatest in fluorocarbon line and to me that is Vicious new Elite line. The 10 pound test is very small in diameter and strong enough to get a fish out of 20 ft. of water or more. Fluorocarbon line in generally is small in diameter so if you don抰 like my suggestion any type of fluorocarbon will do.

Lastly, one of the keys to catching fish with small or lower pound test line is not to horse the fish out of the water. Work the fish slowly to the boat let your drag tire the fish and as you get it to the boat lip it or use a net so you don抰 over strain the line.

The results will vary but the bites will increase I can just about guarantee it!
