Ultralight Fishing, tackle, lures, lines and other similar equipment are important options when bass fishing starts to get tough This way you an often catch a keeper or even a few small bass. It is a good option when other things won't work, but most of the time it does not work for large fish. This type of angling is very suitable for rivers, even small streams.

In a club fishing competition, when the going gets tough, you might well want to try out your finesse lures. This way you could well end up getting much more than you expected.

The description "ultralight fishing" implies anglers that make use of very light equipment, and it is primarily used in the catching of sport fish. Few people use them for catching large fish - this is not what they were created to do.

The first piece of equipment in your lightweight fishing toolbox would be a lightweight rod. That by no means means a rod only suitable for pigmies. The rods many anglers use nowadays are often more than 2m long. They are constructed from heavy duty light weight material. Their feature list is often as long as that of many larger rods.

When it comes to the choice of reels, many fishermen prefer the trusted old spinning wheel. Small here also does not mean minute, and they have the same features as many of their bigger brothers. They are extremely solid and reliable, yet weigh only a few hundred grams.

Your choice of fishing line is another important one. If your line does not go well with the rod and reel that you selected, this will cause all sorts of problems with casting and also in other areas.

Which hooks you use will also largely be determined by the type of fish you are angling for, and the type of reel and rod you are using. Make sure they go together well.

Fishing lures

The correct type of lure would depend on the type of fish you will be catching. Below is a short summary of the most important types used by fishermen:

*Spinners and spoons. The classic choice. This involves some sort of spinning blade, which either spins on its own, or around a central shaft. This causes vibrations in the water and many fish simply find it irresistible.

*Small jigs. They also come in an assortment of sizes, but all of them manage to imitate various items of prey, including crayfish. This is usually very successful with fish in the sunfish group and thus the right choice if you are after catching pan fish.

*Small stick baits and crank baits. These look like small bait fish, and predatory fish species like small mouth bass and many types of pan fish have a peculiar preference for this type of bait.

By this time you should realize that your choice of ultralight fishing, tackle, lures, lines and hooks will have an important effect upon the success of your fishing trip, and on the amount of fun you are going to have.
