How To Have A Great Walleye Fishing Trip In Canada

There are some Canada walleye fishing tips that will help you have some great days of fishing. You have to choose the right location or water to fish, use different strategies, and have the proper equipment and tips for the specific water you are fishing.

Fishing walleye is a treat in Canada because there are some fine waters to fish where the fish welcome the bait. Whether it is a sunny day or a cooler day, you can catch a good sized walleye.

Choose your area to fish. There are many places to fish, but the popular areas are Rainy Lake, Lake Nipigon, Lac Seul, Lake of the Woods, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Lake Erie fishing is good in the early part of the year. You can fish near the shoreline during the night hours and troll the shallows in about six feet of water with worm harnesses or stickbaits. The other waters have plenty of walleye action, but again it will depend on the time of year and the water temperatures as to whether or not the catch will be good for the day.

Fishing tips for Lake Ontario walleye fishing will help you catch your fish. The tips for fishing this water are endless. Fishing at night means that you will be fishing in two to three feet of water with a Rapala between ten at night and three in the morning. The females tend to migrate to the shallow water and are fairly easy to catch. Fall fishing is aggravating because the temperatures are cooling and the weedbeds are dying off. Summer is a good time to fish for walleye around the rocky points with a minnow or a Thundestick. You can look by the mouths of rivers and by the drop offs as well.

One trick that has been used to fish in some waters of Canada where allowed is salting the minnows. You put the minnows on a cookie sheet and salt them with table salt. It is said that the walleye go for this bait rather quickly. This is something that has been used and it works especially on Lake Ontario.

Use different strategies to fish for walleye in Canada. Spring is the best time to fish, but you want to be able to fish anytime so you need to use a different technique to attract the walleye. The vertical drop just outside the zone is one way to get the attention of the walleye. Drop the bait and bring it up about sox inches from the bottom. Then from time to time, raise the bait and allow to drop back to the six-inch mark again. This method entices the walleye to strike.
