Best Wisconsin Fishing Trips for Catching Walleyes

When walleye season has come, the fish are a great catch all throughout walleye country. If you want to make your fishing trip a success, what you should do is put the bait where the fish are. Its simple, but it is a mistake that many fishermen make. After the spawn, the walleyes are known to be fish that prefer to be closer to deeper structure and not shallow waters.

These glassy-eyed fish can also be found anywhere near to rockpile, points as well as deep reefs, sunken islands, and on the odd occasion they might be found in shallow waters where the water is warm. Just like any other fish out there, these will go where the food is.

Wisconsin is known as the walleye country, where you will be able to find quality walleye fishing in nearly every lake in the state, but some of the best lakes for fishing for walleye are the Beaver Dam Lake, Fence Lake, Green Lake, Holcombe Flowage, Lake Butte des Morts, Lake Chetac, Lake Geneva, Big Eau Pleine Reservoir, Castle Rock Lake, Lac Vieux, Lake du Bay, Gile Flowage, Lake Koshkonong, Lake Chippewa and many more. Just about any lake in Wisconsin is ideal for walleye fishing. As long as you know what you are doing and how to do it then you should be fine.

Wisconsin walleye are known to spawn in spring, and when they are given the opportunity they will choose to travel from the lake up to go into the feeder streams where they will then spawn. If they are not able to travel like they want to, they will then seek out the shallow shoals or bars that have clean lower surfaces close to deep water.

They are friendly fish, and as long as their fellow members do not interfere with their food then they shouldn't have problems between them. They are also quite large so they sometimes tend to get in each other's way, but they quickly sort themselves and each other out.

The walleye is a toothy fish that is known to eat just about anything they are able to catch or anything they can get in their mouths. They normally prefer to eat smaller fish and they will also snack on other things like insects, crustaceans and worms. They are wary fish and they prefer the safe waters that are deeper and darker and quieter. There isn't a particular time of the day that these fish are likely to be caught. If you want to you can sit from sunrise to midnight catching these fish if you have the time. The best time to fish though would be when the temperature is warmer.
