Where Do Walleye Live and How To Find Them

The best places to fish for Walleye is not only at river mouths and dams. This comes from pros who know exactly where to go and when to go when it comes to fishing for Walleye. You don't need to stand in a large group on the side of a dam or a river when you are looking for the catch of the day. By fishing where everyone else is fishing your chance to catch the most fish is minimized because there are others who are trying to do the same thing you are doing. Rather find your own little spot where you will be alone and catch fish on your own.

If you hang out with the pros of fishing or know some tricks when it comes to finding the right locations for the right type of fish you are after then you have a few tricks of your own. These anglers that know what they are doing always head out about 5 or 10 miles downstream before they start their catch.

This is where they are easily able to find the Walleye fish they are looking for. The Walleye in this location are the ones that have not yet made it as far as the spawning waters. This is a fact, because no Walleye are the same. They do not spawn on a specific place every time nor do they spawn at a certain time or the same as other Walleye. This is why you have to pay attention to the behavior of the Walleye you are catching, and see what they prefer.

If you come across a river that has plenty of rock structures, rubber flats, springs or even a kind of deep transition shoreline, this is the right place and here you will find great populations of Walleye. The location plays the biggest role in successfully catching these fish. If you are in the right area then you should be able to catch without a problem. If you are in search of the perfect place to fish for Walleye, you need to find a spot or an area that has some

Walleye characteristics.

A ledge, sandbars and/or current breaks are known habitats for spring Walleye. The one thing you have to remember when fishing for Walleyes is to make sure you fish small areas at a time and not big areas. If you rush to fish big areas, you will lose the great spots and you will also lose all big Walleye, which you do not want to do!

A great tip for Walleye fishing is when you are trying to catch them in deeper waters. When Walleye are trying to swim upstream, these fish seek out deep holes underwater to rest before trying to continue the swim upstream. To corner them in these deep holes it is best to make use of a heavy weight with crankbait and three-way swivel. Drop these into these holes where Walleye are.
