Secret Catfish Baits That Draw Them To Your Line

If you enjoy catfishing, then you have surely heard many anglers talking about how they have a secret catfish bait that draws the fish to their line. Some fishermen won't use anything other than their own homemade concoction because they swear nothing works better. There are homemade baits that have been passed down from one generation to another that are simple and work great and the majority of these are stink baits.

The reason for this is because the catfish has a keen sense of smell that it uses to locate its food. The stronger the bait smells, the more it'll attract the catfish. You can buy stink baits from any dealer that sells fishing supplies but many anglers will agree that they are not as productive as homemade baits.

For this reason, many anglers choose to make their own. There are literally hundreds of catfish bait recipes available for you to choose from. Some of them are well-know while others are mostly used by the experienced anglers that have always had excellent results with certain types of catfish baits. Below are three secret catfish baits that fall into this category.

Three Secret Catfish Baits
Many of the younger anglers of today may not have heard about how great some of the old fashioned baits work or may not have had the opportunity to give them a try thus far.

Any angler that wants to improve their success should at least try homemade baits at some point in time. Here you will find three catfish baits that really work and how to prepare them for fishing.

These are listed below:
Lye Soap - Did you know that catfish are attracted to lye soap? This bait has been used for many years and it's easy to make your own. First, pour lye into a container and stir in water. When the lye is dissolved let it sit undisturbed until it reaches room temperature.

Next, melt some animal fat on the stove until it dissolves and let it cool a bit. Add the animal fat to the lye and mix well with a wooden spoon until the mixture thickens. The last step involves adding something to give it a smell such as garlic salt, anise extract or cheese. Mix well and pour into a bowl or a soap mold and give it a couple days to completely harden. Now all you have to do is cut off stripes, bait your hook and reel in those cats.
