Saltwater Fishing In Florida

People travel from across the world to do some saltwater fishing in Florida. Seeing that the Florida Keys is considered to be in the top 3 best fishing spots on earth for saltwater game fish, why not come do some fishing in Florida? All year round there are game fish that will give you a fight of your lifetime.

Florida offers you all kinds of game fish to catch both inshore and even more if you plan on fishing offshore. Some of the great game fish that you can get while fishing inshore are snook, redfish, sea trout, flounder, mangrove snapper, and sheepshead. You do not necessarily need a boat in Florida to fill up your cooler with some delicious fish.

One of the options you might want to look into if you do not have a boat is fishing from a pier. There are many fishing piers up and down both coasts of Florida, and they all provide excellent fishing for anglers year round. Some of them will charge you money some of them wont, one of the more famous fishing piers in Florida lies in Fort Desoto.

The Fort Desoto fishing pier extends out a little longer than a football field, and all the fish I mentioned above can be caught there. Another great spot to cast some lines are on beaches, which is also called surf fishing. The best places to do this are on the beaches that have bridge or pier inlets, and lots of rocks, the rocks give fish like snapper and snook spots to hide and stay out of the sun.

Dock fishing is also great in Florida, if there is an inlet by the dock then you are sure to see some snook around there. Sheepshead also love swimming around docks, and they will be anywhere that has barnacles. Which brings me to bridge fishing, with thousands and thousands of small and large bridges in Florida you are sure to find some good fishing.

One famous bridge to fish from in Florida is the old Sunshine Skyway Bridge. They have bait stands and tackle shops on both sides for the saltwater angler. If you are in the Tampa Bay area and do not have a boat, this will be your best option next to fishing the Fort Desoto piers.

Fishing offshore in Florida can get a bit pricey, but if you have the right captain than it will be well worth the cost. If you do not have access to a boat that can go out in the gulf or the ocean, there are fishing charters everywhere that will take you out to catch some fish for a price. If you get some friends together and everyone pitches in it will help a lot on the finances, and you will have a great time.

Some of the types of game fish you can get while fishing offshore in Florida are grouper, snapper, barracuda, mahi mahi, sailfish, wahoo, tuna, mackerel and many more. You can either fish by trolling, which means you will have some lines out and the boat will continue to move around, covering a lot of area.

Trolling is mainly for catching mahi mahi, wahoo, and sailfish. If you are fishing for grouper or snapper, you will want to be fishing off the bottom of the sea bed. Anywhere from 40 feet and under, with the help of a GPS you can find rocky areas and ship wrecks where these great game fish love to swim around.

So no matter what kind of fishing you want to do in Florida, there are plenty for you to catch both offshore and inshore. I would recommend starting inshore and getting a feel for how saltwater fish fight especially if you are a beginner or a freshwater angler. Then work your way up to the big game fish that reside in the deep sea around Florida.
