Yellow Perch Fishing Tips

When it comes to fishing for yellow perch its a good thing to know where to find them first. It is also good to know that they can actually be found in a lot of places. Just a quick run down will tell us that many lakes and rivers in Canada have yellow perch. Of course the Great lakes areas as well will have them. Then we can find them in almost all the states of the United States.

A lot of provinces and states focus so much on Bass that they dont talk about the great fishing that is available when it comes to the yellow perch. It really is important to know where they are so you can study and understand how to catch them in the areas they are. Again it comes down to doing homework and understanding what is going to work.

The yellow perch can be found in most provinces and states in many lakes and rivers. Knowing they are in those areas is a good start to knowing when to fish for them. For perch it seems they are most active during bright, sunny daylight hours. If they were people we would say they maintain an active life style.

As for the night time hours you will find that the perch are not active at all. The nice thing about this is it is a fish that can be freely caught in bright daytime hours. This is as opposed to so many fish that best bite in the early hours or late hours of a day. Another thing that is cool to know about yellow perch is that they are related to walleye and sauger.

When it comes to spawning for yellow perch they usually do spawn in night time in cooler water temperatures. For the size of most perch it is quite amazing at the amount of eggs that they usually produce. When we talk numbers we are actually talking between 4 000 eggs and 50 000 eggs. If we are talking what season the yellow perch will spawn in then we will be talking spring time.

The yellow perch has quite a unique characteristic when it comes to defending them selves. When a yellow perch needs to defend itself it will raise its fins to put injury on what ever is threatening it. The fins are very sharp and very prickly. When a human is poked it actually gives off a slight toxin that will make the wounds very, very itchy.

For the people who love yellow perch and love fishing for yellow perch there are a few good tips that can make catching them that much better. The biggest tip when it comes to catching yellow perch is going after them on bright sunny days in the daylight hours. There is no better feeling then sitting on a boat or the shore on a great summer day and catching perch after perch.

When it comes to bait for the yellow perch what I found that worked best through the years is a small J hook baited with maggots. Of course there are many different options when it comes to perch. You can also use worms, small minnows and power baits. When it comes to lures tiny jigs, small spoons and spinners will also work great in many cases.

When it comes to catching a fish the yellow perch is great when it comes to any level of fishing. The thing is yellow perch are great of course when it comes to daylight fishing. When it comes to it just keep on fishing and you will find out that catching yellow perch can be one of the favorites.
