Fishing For Spring Break

Fishing For Spring Break

Hey, what did you do for Spring Break? Did you go fishing for catfish too?

We live in Texas and it is a great state to go fishing during spring break. As the sun warms the water the catfish usually start biting.

After planning a spring break fishing trip for several weeks with our granddaughter we were all getting very excited as time grew near. We always try to get to the camp site a day or two early because no reservations can be made… first come first serve and there is one site we like better than the rest usually this RV camp fills up fast. So here it is Wednesday and I am off to the lake with camper. Alright, my favorite site is available! I get the camper set up and head home to spend the night, I will be back tomorrow with the boat and granddaughter.

Thursday afternoon and we head to the lake with the boat this trip for 10 days of fishing and relaxation. Come Friday morning and the rain starts. We cannot even get the boat in the lake thank goodness for remembering to take the xbox and movies as there is no cable and we can only pick up enough digital tv stations to get a good weather report.

Saturday we were able to get the boat in the water and set out a few jugs lines with perch, but the rain kept coming and it was Sunday afternoon before we could even check the lines. There were several perch missing and lines tangles so we knew we had snagged a fish but it had twisted off the hook before we could get to run the lines. Still no catfish on the lines come Monday and it rained again in the afternoon. All this rain should get the catfish to biting but this spring break they were being stubborn. Finally the rain stopped it started to warm up, so we tried come cut shad and bait shrimp. Here it was already Thursday and still no catfish, maybe they were just not biting what we were offering. We should have cooked up come to the homemade bait recipes before heading out. Success at last. as we checked out lines Friday morning there was something tugging as we pulled up our last jug. Alright, there was a nice size fish, not a really big one but big enough to please our granddaughter. Sometimes you have to keep trying different bait until you find what they are hitting.

We always hope to catch the big catfish when we are heading for the lake but I think any fishing trip with any catch is worth the effort. What do you think?
