Tips To Catching Catfish

Tips To Catching Catfish

Many people will tell you different things when it comes to catfish and it is likely they are all right to a certain degree. When it comes to what catfish will eat the answer is they will pretty much eat anything you put in front of them. Of course the experts will always argue as to what is the best baits to use.

Some will say store bought is best while most will suggest the hot dog mixture or any other home made bait. Tha actual fact of the matter is all the baits that we talked about will work and in most cases they will all work just as well. It really will be determined by the taste of the day. The important thing that is just a bit more important then what type of bait is making sure you use the bait properly when it comes to catfishing.

Dont be one of those fisher people that picks one so called perfect spot and casts his bait in the water and waits all day for nothing to happen. I can pretty much guarantee you that you arent going to catch a lot of fish by doing this. When it comes to catfish it does help to have your head in the game.

This means you need to focus and pay attention to what you are doing. The pond you are fishing in may be completely full of hungry fish but if you dont find them other will catch and you wont. The little twitches you give to your line through out the day wont do much to help you either. Instead of complaining how bad fishing is move around and try other baits. Im almost certain things will happen.

The first thing you are going to want to learn when it comes to catfish is everything about them. You want to know its wants, likes, habits and so forth. The catfish hasnt lasted this long by being stupid. It has absolutely great senses for everything and has a great sense of when danger is looming in the area. It is your job to out smart them and get them to come out of hiding for its food which will actually be your bait. Many anglers think catfish have bad eyesight. However in clear water this is far from true.

Catfish have excellent eye sight in clear water. When it comes to hearing there isnat many fish that hear better then a catfish. Trout which are supposed to have great hearing dont even come close in comparison to catfish. If you make too much noise on the shore you are are doomed to fail because they will hear you and take off.

The great thing about learning all this information is you are better gearing yourself up to be able to catch more catfish then the next person. So many people talk about location and I suggest we carry on talking about it because it is one of the most imporatant aspects of catching catfish. You need to have a good look around and with what you learned make a decision as to whether or not a spot is a good one or not.

During the day the catfish will be hiding in a lot of cover. They generally during the day do not go hunting so it will be up to you to get the food in front of their faces. When it comes to catching catfish during the day you do need to practice patience. You need to give the catfish enough time to trust the bait and then to want it enough to take it. Give it about 15 to 20 minutes in a spot. If you havent attracted something in that time then you need to move on to another spot and keep doing this until you finally get one on.

If you notice things sticking out of the water you should be casting fresh bait around it and seeing if the catfish are lyeing in wait. Cast all around fallen trees, bushes, sticks, rocks and so forth. Any one of these could be wha a huge catfish is using for cover. If we want to catch big catfish we need to understand the techniques that need to be used. When you mix together good techniques, bait and equipment you will be well on your way to catching the big catfish. One other key to try and always remember is to be quiet if we want to give ourselves a fighting chance.

So we know that during the day the catfish lie in cover and wait for food to come to them. When it comes to night they will go in search of food. So the best times to really go fishing are in the early mornings and late at night. Rainy and over cast days also seem to get the fish moving. If you can go after catfish when they are on the move you stand a much better chance at catching them.

You will find and figure out hundreds of different forms of bait for catfish. You will eventually find a few that you like. The thing to always remember though is that bait is only one small piece of the equation when it comes to puting all the pieces together to catch catfish.
