How To Find Portable Fish Finder

The elusive fish is something of an enigma that must be caught and conquered, the prize mounted upon walls and cabins all across the world. Finding that “right spot” for fishing on a body of water has been left to human beings’ devices, such as fingers, eyes, and nose, for detecting changes in the weather and temperature of the water. Now we have the portable fish finder.

The portable fish finder is a marvel of modern engineering and science. Imagine, living in a world where not even the fish can hide, as you probe the depths from either shore or boat. Just toss your transducer into the water and wait for the signal to bounce back – it is that easy!

Most portable or hand-held fish finders work on the same principle as their larger cousins, the solidly installed fish finders found on fishing watercraft. Sonar is utilized to locate and detect game fish in water using echolocation. Sound waves are sent through the water column. Anything in the path of the wave reflects back as an item on the finder’s view screen. The reflected sound is calculated and compared to a database programmed into the device.

Many people enjoy angling from shore or pier. This does not hamper the portable fish finder in any way, as all you need to do is obtain the type that has a long detection cord. The transducer on the end of the cord does all the work, and so a float should be attached to the cord end above the sound emitter. From all the brands of hand held fish finding gear, many of the hand held devices are waterproof and floatable to avoid loss.

After flinging the detector cord into the water, turn on the unit. The transducer begins echolocation right away. Depending on the model, the fish that are found can either be identified or just detected in a simple mode. Shoals can easily be visualized and then you can begin fishing that area. It is not fair to the fish, really, but then again: All is fair in fishing and love of fishing!

Many higher priced models have programmed fish identifiers, which can tell you if the fish you are detecting is a large mouth bass or a Muskie. Some actually can show individual fish as well as count the amount of fish in a detected shoal. Portable fish finders are definitely worth the price when it comes to being a fishing expert.

The cost of such devices is nominal, but does not have to hurt the wallet. A mid-priced portable fish finder can achieve many of the same things as the larger, pricier versions. Just be sure you have the right tool for the job, that it has ease of use, reliability, and a good warranty. Portable fish finders are fast becoming very popular with hobbyists and serious anglers alike.
