Project Night Night

When we think of children in need we often think of those that are ill or injured. However, we rarely consider the fact that many children in our communities are homeless. Project Night Night is a non-profit organization that realizes homelessness is a serious problem that many families are afflicted with. Children should never have to suffer, knowing life without their very own place to call home. More children are living in shelters now than many of us realize. This is an issue that needs to be dealt with before it can get any worse.

Project Night Night understands how difficult life can be for a child that has no home. The main focus of this charity is to provide children with a sense of comfort. Packages are put together and given to children that stay in shelters as a way of making their stay a little less traumatic. Each package consists of a blanket, a book for their age level and a plush toy to cuddle. Children from 0 - 10 years of age are included in this service. The organization's goal is to have one of these packages for every single child that needs one in the entire country.

This organization has managed to achieve plenty of success during their time as an active charity. It has been voted the Best Children's Charity by San Francisco Magazine. The hard work and commitment put in by the Project Night Night team goes a long way in bringing a smile to the face of each child that receives one of their packages. Every year they provide more than 20,000 of these night packages to the children of the nation that may otherwise have nothing. Since the year 2005 more than 38,000 books have been given to children in need. Books are a serious part of education and literacy. A gift like this is priceless.

There is currently an average of 298,000 homeless families in the United States. That is simply unacceptable. That is an outrageous number of families who know the true meaning of hard times. There are more homeless children right now than there have been since the Great Depression. That is both shocking and frightening. It is clear that something has to be done to reach out to these families in need. Project Night Night starts by helping the children to see the silver lining in a hard time.

There are always ways to help out an organization like Project Night Night. See their website at ProjectNightNight.org to find ways that you can become a volunteer. It's a great way to become a helpful part of your community. You can donate cash to their fund but there are other exciting ways to help out. People are always needed to host special events for fund raising. You can also purchase a night package for $20 to help out a child in need. The homeless children of the nation are in our very own communities. Make a difference by helping locally in order to make a larger impact across the country.
