Blue Shark Origin & Habitat: A Comprehensive Guide

The blue shark's scientific name is "Prionace glauca" which has derived from the Greek word 'Prion' meaning saw, and Latin words ‘glaucus' for the grey blue colour of the sea. As the name suggests the blue shark is characterised by its vibrant indigo coloured body.

Additionally, the blue shark inhabits all the world's major oceans, but it is most commonly found in tropical and subtropical waters. Found within the epipelagic zone (surface down to about 1000m) where the most abundant amount of food is available.
