Bassin' in Summer Heat: Using Hair Jigs for Hot Weather Bass Fishing

As the dog days of summer arrive, catching fish – especially quality ones, the kind that drive a solid day of Major League Fishing Action for Outdoor Channel television cameras – becomes a bit more difficult.

Hot weather, warm water temperatures and low oxygen levels in the H2O can all conspire to make bass a bit on the sluggish side, which is why the height of summer weather and tepid water brings about the need to hear a summertime sermon from the preacher.

In this case, that sermon comes from the Mississippi bass pro known as Pete Ponds, a new regular on the GEICO Select MLF circuit.

Ponds is no stranger to summer's dog-day conditions or sluggish fish catching action, living in Mississippi and calling Ross Barnett Reservoir, the 33,000-acre reservoir on the Pearl River, his home water.
