Glow-in-the-Dark Flies

2016/7/18 11:28:29

Many of the best fly hatches happen after dusk, when it is difficult for us to actually see the trout eating flies. Here is something I found that will help you avoid missed strikes, organize a late night surface smorgasbord for those big Browns.

To do this, take some of your best patterns and use a fine-point paintbrush to dab the tips of fly wings (or the posts of parachute patterns) with glow-in-the-dark paint.

Be careful, just a little, to much and you will add extra weight to the fly. Just do the top parts of the fly where you will see it and not the trout.

Paint your flies at least 24 hours before fishing them, and spend a good five minutes or so shining a bright flashlight into the fly box so the paint absorbs the energy. If the glow-in-the-dark spot on the water disappears when you hear a slurp, set the hook…
