It was 7:30 pm by the time we got on the lake Looking out at the lake iT WAS LIKE GLASS IT WAS PERFECT! YOU COULD SAY YA IT WAS A GREAT DAY FOR FISHIN A guy couldnt ask for nicer conditions than this!!!...
IF WE HURRIED WE WOULD HAVE about 3 1/2 HOURS OF prime fishing...
THe Sun was setting aND the temperature was cool because IT HAD RAINED A few hours before we got to the lake.. So After launching and loading the boat up with our gear. When in the boat i hooked up the gas line to my old 25hp johnson... And gave the fuel bulb a few good hard squeezes till IT GOT firm. .Within two pulls and with the choke FULL on the old boat motor fired right up and idled out PERFECTLY .. You know something THAT FIRST whiff OF two stroke smoke and lake water you smell when the engine first starts? Well i live for that smell i guess i just like THAT stink... The old motor was alive and it WAS ready to ROAR!!!.. Looking at .that old 25HP johnson its the best dang motor i ever owned... i also got a nice little back up trolling motor its a 1969 6hp Evinrude called a fishermen I use it too but its just for trolling mostly..And it too works very well just like a swiss watch... Anyways driving the boat to one of my favorite honey holes onthe lake for walleyes i watch for a moment the wake of waves that form behind the boat as motor cuts through the water the water folds on its self and then they disapear and fade away behind us ,, If i smoked ciggs like i use to i would have had one right then and there, but i dont soo i wont, I know that old motor so well i can tell if shes is working properly or not just by the smoothness of the wake ...Suddenly i HEARSTOP!!! STOP!!!RIGHT Here STOP!!! ITS my old fishin pal from the front of the boat yelling at me frowning... Your gonna pass it! GEEEEZ!!! what are you day dreaming again? I quickly kill the motor and the boat slows down to a slow drift. .Infact it stops exactly on the spot we been fishing for years for walleye.. :) So i dont know really what the big deal is and all the comotion is about???? Our fishing rods are always ready go before we even leave the dock so basically you just add bait and cast.... But me this time i will be using my fly rod which is fine.. .Because to be truthful thats the only way my OLD fishing pal might be able to outfish me today HA.. At least im giving him a chance eh?... He looks at me and say oh Great i better put on my glasses or better yet a padded helmut cause im gonna get hooked if your using that thing... I said no worries man i know what im doing do u? He just laughed and casted out a baited jig head tipped with a blood sucker. .I then i tied on fly that i tied up last winter which is basic a black leech pattern with a double bead head for weight,, because we are fishing in 12-15 ft water and with the fly rod you need a sinking line and a good weighted fly to get it down thereTO THE STRIKE ZONE where the fish are.I think is the most important thing really when using a fly rod getting it down there in the zone when targeting walleye pike rockbass perch on the fly... I really like rockys cause when they come around in schools they get aggresive and then its non stop action!!..WITH BAIT OR NO BAIT ON THE FLY ROD OR NOT ON FLY ROCKBASS are way under rated as a sportfish... They are so agresive and a serously a REAL Blast to CATCH ON THE FLY rod!! Not quite as good as gold eye but close..Anyways im not gonna sit here and brag
The SCORE At the end of the day was MY Fishing buddy using bait 23 rockbass 3 smaller walleye 2 pike 5 perch
ME useing the FLY rod
19 ROCKbass some 13 -14 INCHES 2 decent walleye3 pike 2 good size ones ...6 perch
And to my old fishing pal we had alot of double headers that trip..and you might have beat me this time but hey next time at least play fair eh because you and i both know your not aloud to use two rods at the same time just to win .HA!!!Lunkertime
