Fishing in Sioux Narrows, Ontario

Have you every fished Sioux Narrows/ Nestor Falls area?

I had the pleasure this August 2012, my birthday week, of fishing for Muskie and Northern Pike with a group of other anglers guided by Pete Corkey.

The day started out well leaving the docks at 9:30 am. The day was of good weather, a bit of overcast, sunny spots, and temperature of 22c and reaching a high of 28c The water temperature was 22c with some bays a little warmer. The Regina bay is a busy spot for boaters moving in and out of the bay to their favorite fishing spot. This area is considered one of the best fishing places for Muskie, Northern pike, walleye, bass and perch.

Equipment:

Our day begins with a cruise to a larger body of water about 25 minutes at 55mph. Those Bass boats are an impressive engineered and aeronautical vessel for the pro. Feels like you?re gliding/skating over the water. The guide?s boat was a Champion with a Yamaha VMAX 175HP motor. We first arrive at a quiet and still bay, full of weeds and water cabbage. The perfect spot for Muskie to lurk and prey on littler fish, we spent some time casting spinner baits to no available, I think it?s just too warm.

Location:

Several hours pass as we change locations from bays to islands all the while admiring the beauty of Lake of the Woods, a few eagles are spotted. Our guide suggests crank baits and trolling through an area known for Muskie and Northern Pikes, he is an avid Muskie and Northern pike with several tackle boxes full of large size lures, meaning he?s only interest is the large ones.

Lures and Patience:

Patiently waiting for a bite or a nibble, a few snags and 5 hours of lake, sun and warm summer breeze, and good chats later, we arrive at an island where the cooler water current is moving fast against an island with rocky shores and full vegetation. The depth is approximately 8 to 12 feet deep and cooler water temperature of 19c. Mid island, a rocky point area jet out into the water and voila! The bait is hooked. The lure is a ?Big Game Surface Twitch? crank bait.

The Catch:

The catch is a 34.5 inch Northern Pike. This hungry fish bit the bait clear in the middle hooking itself mid hook. Must have come right from the bottom up.  We were happy and impressed by the size of this species and its weight.

Thanks again for creating a perfect fishing day Pro guide Pete!
