Kayak Fishing on the Ottawa River: A Beginner's Guide

It is interesting how things change in life? It can be about economical/social situation, it can be about health/family. But I want to tell about one of the major changes: the way that one fishes.

Before starting fishing 4 years ago, I had bought a kayak for exercising. Since I live close enough to the Ottawa River, I though that was a great idea. And, indeed it was a great start, but I had another idea that would be better ? using my kayak for fishing!

I decide to do so, even before I had WFN channel at home to get some more insight with the kayak shows and tips available. First time that I went out in the water with my kayak ? of course with my little tackle ? I had no idea how would it be? I started my journey from the Aylmer Marina towards Shirley? Bay. I went alone and got some good trouble with some waves and wind in the middle of the Ottawa River. I decided to keep going since I had all my safety equipment in order.
Finally, after 25 minutes I've got to the other side and started to fish. Yeah!! I was kayak fishing. But soon I realized that I couldn?t stay in the some spot because of the current and wind. Lost many fishes, didn?t catch any. Disaster!! But it was fu!!

One day watching my newly bought fishing channel WFN, I was impressed with the fishing kayaks around. Researched online and I did not have enough budget to get one of those that I saw in the shows. Then decided the fit up the one I had. After some research, I?ve got to revert the situation. With anchor, fish finder and rod holder, beside my little tackle, I was able to finally tackle some good fish. That is really fun! And for sure I do recommend kayak fishing ? exercise is good and possibilities to fish where boats cannot go!!
