Golf carts are considered to be low-speed vehicles (LSVs) and are subject to the same laws as other motor vehicles. In Indiana, LSVs are not permitted to be operated on public roads unless they are registered with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) and display a license plate.
Additionally, LSVs are only allowed to be operated in areas where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less. Since the speed limit on county roads in Steuben County is typically higher than 35 miles per hour, golf carts are not permitted to be driven on these roads.
