Getting On The Fast Track To A Low Handicap

Golf is frequently cited as a sport that highlights many skills that are vitally important to life in general. Golf throws a never ending stream of challenges your way as you struggle to become better and better. A golfer learns both mental and physical skills as he or she traverses this roller coaster of a journey.

Yet does this journey have to be such a roller coaster of a ride? Some golfers seem to manage to sprint their way towards a single digit handicap whilst others give up trying to get better before they even reach the teens.

In this sense golf can be seen to be similar to the quest to diet and lose weight. Some dieters lose weight quickly and find the process fairly easy. Others struggle with their task and spend many years in a state of yo-yo dieting.

The truth is that no matter what task you set for yourself your confidence in your abilities and your commitment to stick to your plan is enhanced and solidified when you see positive results. We need to see some positive reinforcement and it's best if we see some fruit of our labor in a relatively short time frame; lest we get fed up and change our minds!

For many people it is therefore easier to get their handicap down quickly than it is to do so at a more relaxed pace. You get on a roll, so to speak. You leave less room for doubt. And this aspect is oh so important in golf. Golf is all about confidence. If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you are 100% correct.

But golf in itself is not the easiest game to learn. The club is long. The ball is small. The distance the ball has to travel and the environmental influences are many. There is a lot of information to take in, digest and understand. The club can often feel like an alien octopus in your hands. So how do you set about getting yourself into the fast track?

There is no substitute for good instruction and diligent practice. If you are willing to put the time and effort in at the beginning you will get off to a flying start. Your command of the club and the ball will improve quickly and your confidence will soar.

This time spent at the beginning paves the way for your success later on and it sets your pace. You avoid a lot of self-doubt, loss of confidence and the unnecessary hurdles that this creates. You are far more likely to stay the course and run a fast race. You are also more likely to enjoy this fabulous game.

Practice and instruction doesn't all need to happen upon the range. We learn by doing, seeing, hearing, feeling and copying. We learn good golf by watching good swings and understanding the elements that make them good.

To watch a good instructional video is often just as beneficial as going to see an instructor for a lesson. To close your eyes and imagine a great swing can be just as beneficial as making a good swing. And so if you don't have time to go to the range you can still practice your swing at home.

This is a great way that you can compress your practice into a very short space of time. Not only that, so long as you are visualizing a great swing, then you will be seeing perfect swings again and again, ingraining perfection as opposed to the mediocre results that you might be ingraining whilst upon the range!

If you want to take your visualization to a higher level, hypnosis provides a further and even faster route to success. Hypnosis provides access to your subconscious mind and releases your creative abilities. With hypnosis you can visualize more vividly and ingrain your visualizations more deeply into your subconscious mind, allowing you to automate them and make them instinctive more quickly.
