Looking After Your Golf Clubs To Make Sure They Always Perform

2016/7/20 16:13:43

The game of golf is a game of skill and finesse; it is a game that you need to spend a lot of time honing your skills and unfortunately a lot of time learning from your mistakes. There is a lot of reliance upon the quality of your equipment also, the cost of some golf clubs can seem far too expensive for some people but to a seasoned golfer they will know that the features and properties that this club possesses can make the difference on the golf course between winning and losing.

Therefore no matter what level of golfer you are and however much money you will have spent on your set of clubs you should make sure that you take good care of your clubs to prevent them getting dirty, breaking or inaccurate. Golf clubs can probably be broken down into three sections: The head, the shaft and the grip, there are ways to ensure each stay in top condition and things you should avoid if you want your clubs to last a long time.

The Grip
Your grips will likely be made from rubber, in the past clubs used to have grips made of a leather like tape wound around the end of the club, this was troublesome as if the tape got wet it could unravel and so solid rubber grips that are held on with a sticky tape are now the preferred solution. You should try to keep your grips dry and clean of any dirt or sand. Grips can over time dry out or become cracked, taking care when returning your clubs to the golf bag can prevent any cuts or tears.

The Shaft
The shafts of golf clubs are typically made of steel but in recent years a lot of clubs are now made from the lightweight graphite material allowing the golfer to swing faster, this is lighter but also isn’t as resilient as steel shafts. Both can be bent but graphite shafts could split if they are not properly cared for and whilst some steel shafts can be straightened it is wise to make sure your clubs are kept in a proper golf bag and not leave your clubs lying around in your car boot or around the house can prevent any accidents.

The Head
The most important part of the golf club is undoubtedly the head, it can dictate a lot of factors to do with your golf shot, it can also gather dirt from when you chip a ball or sand if you are getting yourself out of the bunker, you should therefore take time to clean your club heads before returning them ot your gofl bag. Doing this will prevent any dirt from falling into your bag and getting on your golf grips at the bottom of the bag. Clearing the grooves on the face of your golf clubs is also important to allow them to work properly when aiming and hitting the ball, a small nylon or wire brush can easily dislodge any dirt or sand that has got on your clubs as well as a soak in some warm water but make sure you dry them off before putting them away again.
